hortly after my 16th birthday, I had life-saving surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The experience left me with a desire to serve in the medical profession. When I was able to return to school, I applied to colleges that offered a degree in medical technology.

Throughout my education, I excelled in analytical chemistry. Having obtained my degree and certification, I was recruited into a laboratory products subsidiary G.D. Searle & Company. During my tenure there, I moved from R&D to sales and marketing. As a product manager with responsibility for a diverse line of diagnostic products and services, I found myself unable to find ad agencies with a good understanding of my products. Under the tutelage of Searle's publications manager and the division's ad agency, I began writing my own copy. I've carried that skill with me throught my career.
